4h Gallipoli v Damascus

Q: Why is Australian Establishment only interested in flogging the Gallipoli Sacred Cow, but snubs the Billjim’s epochal Damascus victory?
A: Go figure. International Politics (when Centenary Documentaries start to flow, they can’t hide that all the old WWI maps show the area as “Palestine”) and shortcomings of Education system / Academic elites – the country that was too ignorant of its own history to be famous.
Internationally ‘Gallipoli‘ means nothing. But everyone knows our catchwords: Lawrence of Arabia, Middle East Oil, Damascus, etc.
How does it lift new generations to focus only on a defeat, exalted only to assuage the needless slaughter of young men on a beach.
Casualties only limited because Keith Murdoch went out on a limb and blew the whistle on the mess created by Winston Churchill.
In contrast, isn’t it more uplifting to focus a bit on Damascus – the last and greatest cavalry victory in modern history.
Its effect will eternally reverberate in global affairs.
